Picture Cars. Sometimes called hero cars, are the vehicles called for in the script and usually associated with a particular character in the story. They could be driven by the actor in the course of filming and/or placed on a process trailer for filming a driving scene. FYI – a process trailer carries the vehicle and allows filming a moving shot so as it appears the actor is driving. (If you think texting while driving is bad, try acting while driving with lights and cameras in your face.) (Picture Cars are the responsibility of the Transportation department.)
Background Cars. Background vehicles are provided by, and operated by, the background actors (also Interested in doing background work with your car? If so, we suggest you include a photo of yourself with your submission. Background Actors receive an added fee, often called a car bump, for using their vehicle in filming scenes, in addition to their fee as a background actor. A background car money is way way less than the rental fees paid for picture cars. (Background vehicles are the responsibility of the assistant directors.)
If interested in doing background work with your car, you could include a photo of yourself with your submission. If you have background experience be sure to include it in the description area and note if you are a member of SAG-AFTRA, as well. FilmItUSA is not a casting agency and is not promoting that our service will get you background work.
Vehicle Owner’s Pre-Filming Checklist
Renting out your car, truck, motor home, or any type of vehicle to be used in filming in not that different from renting out your home as a film location. The obvious difference being they can take your vehicle across town, across the country, or wherever, to use in filming any scenes. What is the same is you want to be paid and you want to know you and your vehicle are protected in the event of an accident. You need to know that all liability for damage to your vehicle, or to persons or property, while the company is in possession of your vehicle, during filming or otherwise, lies with the company. That was a mouthful, but the following items should cover you:
- The check for payment of vehicle rental.
- A copy of the insurance rider showing you and your vehicle as additionally insured.
- A signed copy of the vehicle rental agreement.
- Where applicable, a security deposit check.
These are all things that could be provided prior to the day of filming, though day of filming could be agreed upon, if you are okay with it. Making the rental payment too far in advance is not normal, as unforeseen events could force the company to cancel filming or possibly opt out of the agreement at the last moment. (Depending on the circumstances, a cancellation fee could be included as part of an agreement.)
Listing A Vehicle

Your Vehicle Photos

The preferred format is a photo of the driver side/front of vehicle, the passenger side/rear of vehicle, and an interior shot that shows the interior layout and color scheme. The photos below represent what your photos should look like.
